Draft Rules Affecting Minnesota Geoscience Discipline- The Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) has proposed rulemaking changes specifically addressing the Geoscience practice (click here to review), as well as some housekeeping issues which affect the Geoscience and Engineering licensed professions (click here to review). We anticipate a member of the Board will be in attendance at the February 7, 2012 luncheon to summarize the proposed rulemaking changes. These posted documents are redlined drafts (Red = Suggested Modifications, Blue = Rationale + highlighted sections) for discussion among the regulated professions, so bring your questions to the luncheon !!!

Luncheon Meeting - The February 7, 2012 luncheon speaker will be Bruce A. Brown, Senior Geologist with the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey. Bruce will be presenting a timely topic "Wisconsin’s Frac Sand Rush of 2011: The Resource and the Issues". Come join us for this interesting presentation. The February 2012 luncheon is graciously sponsored by American Engineering Testing and American Petrographic Services. American Engineering Testing Inc. (AET) is an employee-owned corporation providing geotechnical, environmental, materials and forensics consulting and testing services to public and private sector clients in a broad spectrum of industries.

The February luncheon is also sponsored by American Petrographic Services (APS). APS specializes in petrographic analysis of construction materials to determine suitability, conformance to specifications or causes of failure.

The Section thanks January 10, 2012 luncheon speaker Steve Lee from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), speaking on "Environmental expectations and the origins of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in 1967". The December 2011 luncheon was graciously sponsored by Nova Consulting Group and their Drilling Division, and we thank you for your support.

Employment Opportunities - Don't forget to check with the employment page for recent posting of job opportunities. The intent of this webpage is to provide space to post employment opportunities for geologists in the Midwest, and Minnesota in particular.

AIPG was founded in 1963 to certify the credentials of practicing geologists and to advocate on behalf of the geologic profession. The science of geology is vital to the interests of the nation and in order to best protect public health, safety, welfare, and the environment. AIPG is an organization of qualified geologists dedicated to this mission.

We hope you will find the Minnesota AIPG webpage useful and informative. We strongly encourage all qualified geologists to join AIPG, and application information is available here. Additionally, Minnesota AIPG strongly supports Geologist Registration in Minnesota. If you are looking for information on study guides to prepare for the ASBOG exam click here.
