| This posting is for a position that supports Xcel Energy’s hazardous and regulated waste compliance programs. Position responsibilities include providing on site support to Xcel Energy facilities primarily located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. Responsibilities also include developing and presenting training lesson plan materials. Candidates should have strong customer service skills, good written and verbal communication skills, experience with Minnesota’s Hazardous Waste Regulations, DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations and the Toxic Substance Control Act. This job requires a proficiency in the use of software such as Word, Excel, Project, Documentum and Power Point. Experience with programming in Access and designing a website using share point is desirable. A valid drivers license and reliable transportation required. Successful candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs safely. | ||
| Position Summary: | ||
| Implements and administers environmental monitoring and compliance programs, secures and renews permits and licenses, and works on matters that may be somewhat difficult in nature, moderately complex, and varied. Under general supervision, provides technical support, assessment, and execution of the corporate environmental protection programs and policies. Possesses knowledge and exercises judgment related to application of fundamental environmental program theories, techniques, concepts, procedures, and practices. |

| a) | Prepares environmental procedures and programs designed to maintain compliance with existing federal, state, and local regulations, licenses, and permits pertaining to environmental control at the plant. (Major compliance areas may include air, water quality, and land quality; liquid and solid waste management and disposal, above ground and underground storage tanks, radiation, emergency plans, DOT compliance with pipeline and transportation.) | 50% |
| b) | Designs and implements monitoring programs. Performs in-depth environmental reviews and assessments to facilitate compliance with applicable regulations and to minimize risk and liability to the corporation. | 15% |
| c) | Maintains records as required to comply with environmental requirements and policies. | 10% |
| d) | Provides onsite audit and regulatory inspection support. Researches non-compliant conditions, and assists others in preparing responses to regulatory agency inspection concerns and internal audit findings and recommendations. | 5% |
| e) | Provides formal regulatory required and requested environmental technical training and guidance to facility personnel and outside contractors to promote environmental compliance. | 5% |
| f) | Provides assistance to emergency environmental incidents as requested. | 5% |
| g) | Remains current on new regulations and legislation as they are promulgated and assists facilities in making necessary modifications to procedures, processes or operations to comply. | 5% |
| h) | Works to implement programs within budget, time and regulatory constraints. | 5% |
| Minimum Requirements: | ||
| BS/BA
in environmental science, engineering, applied science, or related
fields and two years of professional experience in areas of environmental
or applied science. (Note: An Associate college degree in areas of environmental or applied science and three (3) years of progressively more responsible environmental related work experience may be substituted for the education portion of the requirement.) Selection criteria may include testing and/or assessment. |
