A Current Look at the Future of Base and Precious Metal Exploration and Mining in Minnesota

Biography

Ernest K. Lehmann is a 1951 geology graduate of Williams College, Williamstown MA. He attended graduate school in geology at Brown University in Providence RI in 1951-52 and the completed the Owners and Presidents Management program at the Harvard Business School in 1984.
 
He began his career in the mining industry in 1950 at Signal Mining Company's gold mine in Bannock MT. In 1951 and from 1952 to 1958 he was employed by Bear Creek Mining Company, the exploration arm of Kennecott Copper Company, with a two year break for military service as a Terrain Intelligence Analyst in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Third Army.
 
In 1958 he began a consulting career in which he is still active.  He and his firm's members conducted mineral exploration, exploration management, mine development, mining geology and mineral economic studies not only in the US but also in Canada, Mexico, Central and  South America, Europe, Southern Asia, Indonesia and Australia involving  a wide variety of metallic and industrial mineral commodities.
 
Among other projects he has been intimately involved in the discovery of lead-zinc deposits in southeast Missouri, gold deposits in Argentina and Montana, several chemical grade limestone deposits. Currently, as a director of Franconia Minerals Corporation, he is continuing his 23 year involvement in exploration and development of copper-nickel-platinum group metals deposits in northeastern Minnesota. He is also the manager of Vermillion Gold LLC exploring for gold in pre-Proterozoic terranes in northern Minnesota.
 
Among his various activities, he is a Director of publicly traded Franconia Minerals Corporation and President of  MiningMinnesota, a base and precious metal industry trade group.  He currently serves on the state's Mineral Coordinating Committee, the Governor's Task Force on Minnesota's Mineral Future, the State Map Advisory Committee and the Advisory Board to the Natural Resources Research Institute in Duluth. He is an American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) certified professional geologist, a charter member and past president of AIPG and Past-President of the AIPG Foundation.  He is a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists and a Legion of Honor member of the Society of Mining Engineers.  He is licensed in Minnesota, California and Georgia.
 
He has been awarded the Ben H. Parker medal by AIPG , the Goldich Medal by the Lake Superior Geological Institute and the Ben Dickerson Award by the Society of Mining Engineers.
