Adventures in Yellowstone Geology: a coming-of-age tale

Abstract
Every geology major dreams of doing research in the most fascinating and beautiful places on Earth; Yellowstone is one such place. This presentation offers a brief background survey of Yellowstone geology, details research on surficial geology in the Yellowstone Lake basin, and teases out the complex interplay of factors influencing the sedimentary record there. Moreover, the presenter hopes to illustrate some lessons learned from his experiences studying this special place and the other researchers he met along the journey. Those forces helped season him into the professional he is today.

Biography
Many attendees may know Charlie Tiller as the 2006 President of the AIPG Minnesota Section. Long before then, Charlie attended the University of Minnesota where he completed a MS degree on the geology and paleolimnology of Yellowstone lakes in 1995. He holds a BA degree in Geology from Colgate University. After graduation Charlie experienced an unsavory series of jobs – some in the environmental field – until joining AET in 1998 where he remains employed today as an environmental consultant
